March 31, 2011

It is your worst nightmare as a retailer, it is your biggest trading season and you have a product recall in place. That is where Lindt has found itself this week. They said of the recall "We were recently made aware that elements of peanut butter were found in the 16g milk egg, and have immediately confirmed the issue and informed FSANZ and the NSW Food Authority. We are placing a voluntary recall on all potentially affected products, as any consumers who have a peanut allergy or intolerance … [Read more...]

February 27, 2011

Tonight on our regular health and social media Twitter chat #hcsmanz we discussed patient information and the role of social media.  We discussed that there were a myriad of benefits with emerging techologies but also noted they do have down sides One area that did arise was the area of health information quality. As information sources proliferate and health consumers go to the internet to search for health information the area of quality becomes increasingly important.  The other area was … [Read more...]

February 26, 2011

Recently the Pew Internet Project and California HealthCare Foundation released the findings of an extensive national survey revealing that 80% of Internet users look online for health information. While that figure may not be surprising it is useful to look at the areas of search themselves. The following are some key items from the report: 24% of internet users look online for information about drug safety or recalls. 19% of internet users look online for information about pregnancy and … [Read more...]

Reflecting on Social Media – What has changed for you?

November 10, 2010

Yesterday I attended the Digital PR & Corporate Communication Day at the Sydney Blogger Festival. The line up had some great speakers such as Kristen Boschma from Telstra, Mathew Gain from Edelman and Scott Rhodie from Fleishman-Hillard. What struck me about the day was how the industry is maturing rather than a focus on buzzwords it was all about good solid strategies and engaging content and it made me reflect on how things have changed. The Four Year Journey In  06/07 colleagues Scott … [Read more...]

Australians No.1 in Social Media Usage

January 25, 2010

Just in time for Australia Day!  Read a great post by Ross Dawson today regarding Australians being No 1 in Social Media Usage according to the latest data by Nielsen. Ross asks why this would be the case. Perhaps it is due to Australians being 'early adopters' in areas such as mobile phones and VCRs this was certainly the case. This Australia Day perhaps many more Aussies will be blogging rather than bbqing! Read more at Ross Dawson's blog. … [Read more...]

End of the Year but start of a blog

December 16, 2008

As the year draws to a close I thought it was time to start my own blog. After contributing to many blogs since 2006 including FreshChat, Digital Ministry, The Digital Edge and Slice Media and leaving them behind when I moved jobs I decided the mature thing to do was simply start my own. Digital Democracy reflects the current environment in which consumers have their say and in which brands and companies are all judged daily. I hope you will also have your say on the blog in coming weeks. … [Read more...]
